5th Annual M&M
Meat Shops Stick Spiel
On Saturday March 6, the St. Marys Curling
Club held its 5th annual Stickspiel sponsored by St. Marys
M&M Meat Shops. Sixteen teams from St. Marys and area Clubs
participated in the 2 Draw, 2 x 8 end games event. Everyone enjoyed
good food, good ice and the company of fellow men and women curlers.
Everyone earned a prize of M&M Meat Shops products.
The first draw was won by the St. Marys rink skipped by Ron
Ferguson. His team included Ron Hunter, Marvin Hartwick and Rick
Greenaway. Second draw winner was Ken "Crazy Legs" Murphy's
rink from Wallaceburg. Our thanks go to our sponsor and all the
volunteers at the Club who worked to make the day a success.
More
than $3000 raised at 6th Annual Hope for Haiti Bonspiel
The 6th annual Hope for Haiti
bonspiel took place on Saturday, February 20 at the St. Marys Curling
Club. A total of 64 curlers
from St. Marys, Mitchell, Ilderton, Park Hill and London came out to support the
fundraiser. This bonspiel is
arguably the most popular at the St. Marys Curling Club with a long
waiting list each year.
The Green rink (Doug Green, Peggy Green,
Jodi Kerr and Wayne Murrell) won the first draw and the Mitchell rink
(Josh Mitchell, Brian Scott, Amy Brown and Madison Brown) won the
second draw. Both rinks are from
St. Marys.
Hope for Haiti would like to thank
Damen’s Restaurant for their donation of the dinner, the
members who made prize donations and provided lunch and a special
thank you to John & Rika Aarts and Brian & Tina Douglas for
organizing the bonspiel.
All of the funds raised at the bonspiel will
be put towards the group’s current and future projects. All volunteers who travel to take
part in a project must pay their own travel expenses, which allows
all fundraising efforts to be put directly into the projects. Upcoming events for Hope for Haiti
include the Afternoon of Hope
silent auction on May 2 and a golf tournament at River Valley Golf
Club on May 29. For more
information, please contact Murray Mitchell at 519-284-3625.
Hope for Haiti is an entirely
volunteer-run group committed to working in developing
countries. This year, they are
focused on building a school in Uganda
and projects in Malawi
and Haiti. Since the earthquake in Haiti,
the St. Marys Hope For Haiti group has raised more than $77,000 for
disaster relief efforts.
